Q & A

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most from patients. Have another one? Call us at 781-878-1940.

Sensitive teeth often come from gums that have slightly receded, exposing the underlying dentin. There are toothpastes, gels, and dental procedures that can help — talk to us if your teeth are very sensitive.

Great teeth and gum care start at home. Daily brushing and flossing greatly minimizes the risk of gingivitis or decay as you age.

Gingivitis is caused by bacteria that surrounds the teeth and enters the gums, causing irritation, inflammation, and bleeding. Regular hygiene visits help prevent it from worsening into periodontal disease.

Periodontal disease begins with little or no symptoms and, left untreated, can cause bad breath, gum recession and sensitivity, abscesses, tooth pain, and tooth loss. It's a chronic condition treated through periodontal cleanings, root planing and scaling, laser therapy, and local antibiotics — surgery is only needed for severe cases.

Silver (amalgam) fillings are a durable metal alloy that has been used for decades. White fillings (composites) are made of plastic or glass polymers that match your tooth color, giving a more natural, cosmetic result.

Tooth whitening, bonding, porcelain veneers, and porcelain crowns can all be used alone or together to enhance your smile. Contact our office for a customized treatment plan.
